Samba carnival in Bremen. A great experience in February.

Bremen is home to one of the largest samba carnivals in Northern Europe. This doesn’t fit into the typical cliché of the “North German” and is a great spectacle with great music and fascinating costumes. Samba carnival can be celebrated elsewhere than in Rio!

Plans for 2018 are also likely to be running at full speed again. The date for the next event is February 2 – 3,2018.

When unicorns and other mythical creatures march through the streets of Bremen in February, it’s time for the Samba carnival!

In 2017 the 32nd edition of the Samba carnival took place under the motto “Wonder Worlds”. The opening took place in Bremen’s good parlour on the market square with a history. In keeping with the stormy times, the story ended with an almost unattainable desire for peace in the world. Bremen Carnival can also show the Hanseatic city with a great event!

The Samba carnival in Bremen is now one of the largest samba carnivals in Germany. Some of the more than 1500 participants come from England, Poland, the Netherlands or even Denmark.

Samba carnival:

Great rhythms, fantastic costumes and enthusiastic foot-groups turn Bremen into a South American carnival stronghold this weekend (with north German weather). The nearly 65 groups of feet with their dancers or stilt walkers and the drummers have the attention of an at least as enthusiastic audience of nearly 40,000 spectators.

If you don’t get enough, you can start on Friday with the “warming up” at various facilities in the city. The main event is the actual move from the market square to the Bremen quarter. Afterwards, there were great performances of the groups on many stages.

Furthermore, on Saturday evening the big costume ball in the slaughterhouse (which is no longer a slaughterhouse) was celebrated according to the status!

You can find out more about the carnival itself on the website of the Bremen Carnival Association.

You want to celebrate more? In Bremen this is no problem at all. When do you prefer to visit Bremen? In December you have the opportunity to visit Germany’s third largest Christmas market. In the autumn, Bremen celebrates the “fifth season” with the open market.
